Legends, Icons & Rebels is a compilation of twenty-seven profiles of some of the greatest musicians that ever lived and will be accompanied by two CDs of songs by the featured artists. The book will release in Canada and the United States on October 8, 2013 in hardcover and as an e-book. Carefully compiled like any great playlist, Legends, Icons & Rebels highlights some of the most influential voices in musical history, from Ray Charles to the Beatles, from Johnny Cash to Joni Mitchell. Accompanied by stunning portraits from a number of internationally renowned illustrators, each profile explores the achievements and struggles of extraordinarily talented artists whose innovations changed the landscape of music for generations to come. Robbie Robertson also shares anecdotes about these artists and the influence they had on his own musical journey. “The book rose out of our lifelong love for music and a desire to share this deep connection with our children and grandchildren. Robbie Robertson and his son and co-author, Sebastian Robertson, introduced the book at BookExpo America in New York City on June 1, 2013 where they appeared in an on-stage interview with music journalist Alan Light, followed by a signing that drew hundreds of attendees. The authors will tour select cities in Canada and the United States in October.
The line-up of musicians and songs included in the CD are as follows: "Johnny B. Goode" - Chuck Berry, illustrated by Dale Stephanos About the AuthorRobbie Robertson is himself a musical legend. He has won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee. He was the primary songwriter for the critically acclaimed group The Band, penning Americana classics like "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek" and toured with Bob Dylan. After The Band bid farewell to performing in The Last Waltz concert, filmed by Martin Scorsese, Robertson followed his long-time fascination with film. He was a Creative Executive at DreamWorks and has scored and/or been an executive music producer on a number of Martin Scorsese's films. He has also acted in and written and produced other major motion pictures.
