CHARLIE MARS ANNOUNCES SOLO ACOUSTIC TOUR
IN SUPPORT OF NEW ALBUM, BLACKBERRY LIGHT

“Mars has come upon the ideal musical vehicle for his achingly soulful, Gram Parsons-like drawl” – UNCUT

Charlie Mars will launch a summer headline tour on May 31 at City Winery in Chicago. The solo acoustic outing will also include two shows at The Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis on June 1 and an evening at Rockwood Music Hall II in New York City on June 14. The run will wrap up on June 21 at Circular Church in Charleston, SC. See below for a full itinerary.

“When he’s onstage, songs with deep grooves get some breathing room, and his lush choruses inevitably lead to raucous audience sing-alongs,” said Esquire. SoundSpike praised one of his 2013 SXSW showcases as an “intimate, one-of-a-kind” experience,” noting: “Charlie Mars was as much a legitimate storyteller as he was a singer/songwriter.” Mars will be doing plenty of both on his upcoming headline tour, which follows supporting runs with such artists as Steve Earle, Citizen Cope, Willie Nelson, Mike Doughty, and the Tedeschi/Trucks Band.

For his new video, “Let The Meter Run,” Charlie teamed up again with Josh Goleman (Kris Kristofferson, Ryan Bingham), who directed his “Listen To The Darkside” clip. The video has been added to CMT’s “Pure in Edge/Wide Open” rotation as well as CMT.com <http://CMT.com> and CMT Mobile. “Let The Meter Run” can be seen at:

The Oxford, Mississippi-based tunesmith’s latest album, Blackberry Light (Rockingham Records), builds upon the distinctive musical approach of 2009’s breakthrough Like A Bird, Like A Plane. “Blackberry Light plays like the soundtrack to a late-night seduction,” said The Boston Globe. “It comes with all the fixin’s too: sex, redemption, heartache.” American Songwriter hailed it as “potent” while Relix praised it as “an album of self-reflection, with a heartbeat.” “Blackberry Light’s whisper-close confessional ballads inhabit richly atmospheric soundscapes tugged along by a subtle but seismic rhythmic undertow,” observed UNCUT.

Numerous tracks from Blackberry Light have been licensed for television. “How I Roll," which Esquire praised for its “ridiculously thick groove,” was featured on “Weeds” and is the first track off the “Weeds” Season 8 soundtrack. “I Do I Do” was tapped by “How I Met Your Mother” while the album’s title track was heard in “Up All Night” and “Parenthood” featured “Sometimes The Sky.”

Mars shared the stage with Mike Doughty for an episode of  “Mountain Stage” that premiered recently on NPR. You can check out Charlie’s performance at http://www.npr.org/event/music/174401695/charlie-mars-on-mountain-stage.
